What do you mean?
If you mean bonanza farms, most fell apart after one generation, and that was because they ran out of nutrients.

Back than, no one was pouring lots and lots of nutrition into feilds yet.I would say it was more of a management and organization struggle and lack of timely and readily available quick communication had to be a real factor as well.
