southern MN | The single lane common actual roundabout is pretty easy to grasp.
The twin lane ones I have no clue, it appears they are simply a blender turned on with cars moving through, you can’t enter and exit 2 lanes that quickly. They have 2 of these 2 blocks apart in the big town near me and pretty much could put a police shack there and man it 24 hours to deal with the hourly fender benders. It’s ridiculous.
Then, the 30 other round about that city has, no 2 are alike. Some have exit lanes before the circle, some are teardrop, some have 5 junctions not 4, some have 2 lanes feeding into single roundabout with or without exit lanes.... It is massively confusing to run into 5 of them on a simple drive through that town and every one is designed differently.
Then the latest one they put in my town is on a hillside, between 2 bridges, with a curved road. Poor visibility and very poor stopping traction in winter with the icy bridges and hill. Coming down into it you really can’t stop in winter.....
So, a good simple roundabout was a fine thing.
What the engineers have spawned from that is tough to deal with.
