Humeston, IA | Trying to track down an issue with a Trimble FMX1000 being used to precision-apply seed and fertilizer (small plots at 2 mph) using a Precision Planting Gen3. The as-planted/applied data shows that all applications were made in the correct plots, but the observation in the field appears that the placement was actually behind. Distance from GPS to planter/application points in PP are set correctly.
However, the operator had been using the Remote Output functionality in the FMX to activate a spray can to mark plots. My hypothesis is that by using this, the reported & outputted position of the GPS receiver on the tractor was adjusted to be the virtual location of the paint marker. This position was this further offset by the PP and caused the offsets in the plots.
One thing that was suspicious was that, even though the FMX1000 was running on RTK, the as-planted/applied data from the PP showed some "wandering" of the recorded points - the path swayed back and forth +/- 1.5 to 2 feet, although the actual plots in the field are straight. It is almost as if the reported position was being calculated based on a straight, fixed line from the receiver back, and that every slight adjustment in steering wagged the position further (like if a GPS receiver was mounted on a horizontal beam projecting straight back from the tractor 15-20 feet).
Does anyone know if there is a setting in the FMX1000 to send out an adjusted position based on an implement offset? Thanks!
