Subject: Basement Drain Backing Up

Live in an older home with an unfinished basement. The washing machine drain is connected to the old shower drain downstairs and has been backing up. The drain runs to a tile and wasn’t connected to the septic system- until just recently we called a plumber and they suggested in order to stop the back up, that we install a pump for the washer that will pump the water into the septic system. Well after doing so, we STILL get some water backed up in the original drain when we run the washer. I called the plumber to double check and make sure everything was installed and checked over and it was. To me it doesn’t make sense, am I missing something?
