West Central Iowa | Definitely unfortunate, bit in my 20 years of running 56X balers, I've never had that happen on the first bale of the season (or after being hooked up again after the tractor had a different duty). If the baler's previous bale to being unhooked was a normal wrap cycle, the mechanism is "closed" and has no reason to allow wrap to dispense. The mess you have is a specific result of repairs and the tech not resetting the net wrap knife.
If this exact same situation would have occurred in the middle of a half baled field, the same result would have occurred. We appreciate your warning for future reference.......but it has nothing to do with the first bale of the season, and everything to do with the off season repair.
You can mention it to the dealer in hopes of getting compensated for the wrap, but suspect you will be SOL in regards the the rained on hay. Good luck with your situation......it's no fun regardless of how you got there. | |
