I had a CEO of a bank that I was a board member once make the statement about employment "Be careful what you incent for, because you will get it" when we were talking about employee incentives. I've always remembered that because I think it applies to a lot of other areas of life. Whatever there are incentives for you will get a lot of. No incentives, not so much.
What incentive to the medical profession is there for curing diseases? There is a big one for treating them.
Sure, most people are honest, hard working and take pride in what they do and that they are doing good in the world. But if it does not pay the bills, that is all the incentive there is.
It doesn't have to be a conspiracy to make something so.
