Subject: Oats for the silo

nw NC
Chopping oat crop for silage. 100 lb/acre seed, no-till planted March 21&22. 65 lbs N ( 30% solution) dribbled on with streamer tips when it showed that there was going to be a successful stand. The oats are a replacement planting for annual ryegrass planted last November and early December which became a failure due to dry conditions for so long after seeding . Ryegrass finally sprouted mid December but winter killed. Some oats are very good, some fair.
