Lancaster PA | We have been doing tritical and corn silage rotation for years. Most dairies around here that are not amish have gotten away from alfalfa. I have never compared rye vs tritical. It's supposed to give you a bigger harvest window than rye but if the weather's right I think it matures just as fast, only a week or 2 later. It works good for us because the custom chopper we get is getting finished with rye when our tritical is ready. If you are seeding later in the fall I think tritical does better. A neighbor had some seeded the same day beside rye pretty late in the fall and the tritical looked much better. | |
