Your last line pretty well sums it up!
To the op I’m a rookie and have only been feeding Holstein for 20 yrs. The best I ever did was 3.7 and that was on a hot hmsc, barley, and corn syrup diet. It didn’t pay off to feed that as we where burning stomachs out on them by the time they hit 12-1300#. Probably 10% of that pen barely drug themselves across the finish line in the end
