Maybe there is an increase in efficiency. Have you noticed the winglets on some aircraft? A winglet slows or stops high pressure air from going around the tip to the low pressure area. It reduces vortices from the wingtip. a propeller is just a wing.
A winglet reduces the required length of the wing.
That is just my thoughts.
