| It is a version of Linux:

You could run a "live" version of PureOS. This means you would download PureOS to a USB and set your computer to look for a USB before a hard disk to boot.
Windows programs were not designed to run under Linux. There are workarounds such as Wine or CrossOver. Or you can run Windows in a virtual machine.
Most excel worksheets can be loaded into LibreOffice calc. LibreOffice is a open source replacement for MS Office. LibreOffice comes packaged with most Linux distros. In my experience, excel worksheets will work if there are few or no macros. Some formulas may need to be changed. A windows version of LibreOffice can be downloaded from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/ if you want to see how your excel spreadsheets will work.
For the record, I switched to Linux Mint when my Win7 machine crashed and Microsoft would not recognize my OEM key. I was tired of Microsoft having access to my computer as well. | |
