Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Off topic, but I use an App on my phone to called DryGrainCalc. This allows me to select a crop to work with (Corn @ 15% or Corn @ 15.5% and single choices for other grains), a load weight in pounds or bushels and the starting moisture. The app will then shrink or expand the pounds or bushels to the moisture level chosen.
This is based on some standard formula which may or may no be correct. I use this with the wet weights from our grain cart to "shrink" to an equivalent dry weight.
This can also be used to expand the weight of a crop that got overly dry such as soybeans. The amount of loss due to being overly dry is frightening. However there generally isn't much one can do about it. Here it is quite common to start to harvest soybeans early in the day when they are a bit wet and have them quickly get overly dry on a nice sunny day with a bit of a breeze. |
