Your best bet is if you have access to another computer, connect the hard drive from the first computer to it, and use a program like Recuva and save it to a different drive. This reduces the chance of writing over the files that have been "lost". You did the right thing by shutting down right away. I use what some call a toaster which is just a usb 3 connected dock that drives can be plugged into like a toaster.
