Subject: RE: Hip ???

Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa

Little papa - 10/20/2022 14:51 An elder friend of mine in his upper 80s fell in the house a few days ago and broke his hip. Well was thinking about it and as young kid I can never remember my parents or grandparents talking about someone falling and breaking a hip. Visit with a few of the older fellows this morning in coffee shop and asked same question. One was in his mid 90s. They also said the can’t remember of any one breaking a hip years ago or their parents talking about it. Meaning in the 1920s,30s,40s 50s timeframe. So is it the process foods, modern medicine or what that’s causing our hip bone to become more fragile. Just hear of it as being more common now then years ago.

Really????  That surprises me.........a lot!!  I could name a good number of elders who had a broken hip years ago. I do a lot of genealogy work in the winter, and many many death certificates list "upper femur fracture" or "hip fracture" as either a primary or contributory CoD.  But historically, you're right, hip fracture is more common now than in the 1800s-early 1900s according to the cursory look-up I did on Google.

Edit:   Maybe I just come from a klutzy-er family than most!!!  LOL!  ((My own ballerina-like grace would confirm that!))
