Try some different varieties like Jasmine. You can also try sautéing the rice a little before you cook it to bring out some more flavor.

As a rice farmer I can assure you that in other countries where rice is a staple that variety and texture matters a great deal. Most restaurants in the US probably don’t put a great deal of effort into it.

Even growing it I used to not do anything but minute rice, but hearing them talk about all the different varieties at grower meetings I decided to explore some of them.

Here’s a recipe for rice pilaf that I really enjoy making with Jasmine rice.
