sw ontario | It does give some reassurance/comfort to forward contracting and then having a short crop with prices above your contracted price it pays off the average fall price so you don't burn on both price & short crop.
On corn it also pays if you get vomotoxin and are discounted. A few yrs. ago they paid guys with extremely high Vomotoxin full insurance to just destroy there corn. Now that turned out costly as following spring you could send corn to export to Hamilton harbor,no vom limitations and they paid $5-5.50 bu. for it.
It was a learning lesson for all.
For me I would be real happy if I never collected anything from crop insurance as then I would have decent crops. | |
