Seems to me the problem is the comfort with which people enter into debt. Land/home/vehicle prices are what they are because people are willing to sell their soul for the rest of their life for that creature comfort. Nevermind the reality that many people will never own what they have acquired.

Our consumerism is a drug, an addiction many suffer from.
