Ottawa, Illinois | Also keep in mind the SRW market is fickle. The Illinois river ships during harvest or they store it until just before ysb and yc. Saint Louis, memphis and up the Ohio River are the few players for SRWW. Even with Cargill and ADM in town, it is possible that neither of these players has the SRWW market in the gulf. Sometimes Binge or possibly CGB has the SRWW market in the gulf and ADM/Cargill are shut out. These guys can offer a price, but without any active buyers, they cannot afford to be agressive.
It is possible that ADM and Cargill are doing it because they can. It does happen. ADM has learned to "collude" without as much as a wink. It's kind of a wierd way to play poker, but they have done it successfully in the past. It's more likely that they just don't hae the buyers. | |
