Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80 | Kai - 4/10/2022 18:25 I was told by a friend who is a diesel mechanic to eliminate that filter because there are two other spin ons already (one above the frame near the tank itself and one at the primer pump) so I am very seriously considering it. My only concern there is that the ability to see the fuel flow there has been useful. If I delete the filter can I leave a sight glass on a couple places on the line permanently? Or perhaps I could exchange the filter at the primer pump for one with a glass bottom?
First, most CAT 3208 applications, in the trucking market, have a glass water separator, as the primary fuel filter, and the typical CAT Secondary fuel filter, on the hand priming pump filter base. (old CAT number, from years ago, was 1P2299 = Secondary) It has changed since, then.
I would just stick to that system, for a 2 filter system.
Now, if you know you are already going to replace the fuel line/hose; from fuel tank to your Primary fuel filter (whatever filter you finally choose to leave on the truck) I would try to eliminate as many fittings and 90 degree elbows, as possible. All extra fittings and unions, just create "additional" fuel restriction amounts = just makes it harder for the CAT 3208 transfer pump, to suck up and pull the fuel to itself. |
