1. Will air in the system recirculate if not bled out properly?

2. Will an electric pump between the primary filter and water separator help with air in the line?

3. I would like to replace the glass box type separator with a spin on. What model will be suitable for this engine?

4. Is increasing the idle slightly a potential short term workaround that won't be causing damage to the system?

5. What is the best way to check for leaks between the tank and water separator.

Thanks for any help, advice, warnings, admonishments or well wishes!

1. No, it should bleed quickly with the engine running, and no leaks in the fuel lines between the tank and transfer pump.

2. An electric pump close to the tank should help. shouldn't be needed though

3. Any spin on filter base will work, just get a filter with same or lower micron rating than the one it came with. Actually, any filter will work fine as long as you have a secondary filter after it. Shouldn't need to though. A glass filter is valuable for diagnosing what's going on.

4. no harm from a higher idle speed as long as it's not an automatic.

5. This is the question that matters, but there isn't an easy way to check for leaks. Replace any rubber. Don't forget to check the tank for floaters, or a plugged intake screen, or add an intake screen if the intake gets plugged. Could use a vacuum pressure gauge teed into the fuel supply, or a clear hose to see air bubbles, or a temporary tank to eliminate parts of the system to see what's leaking.
