Thanks for the quick response!
Now that you've confirmed that its a 3 ton gear and didn't mention that there was anything special about it I'm less reluctant to have my welding shop modify it. I'm not too worried about the road speed stability since the only time this gear will be on the road it will be on a trailer (90 miles between farming operations).
Thanks also for the Shoup mention. I downloaded their catalog and it looks like they have a lot of cool stuff.

You guys are are (justifiably) thinking of Lower-48 shipping prices. Alaska doesn't have UPS Ground, only air freight. It is very common for us to pay as much for freight as we pay for the item itself. There is a very good chance that those $250 wheels will have another $150 each in freight. I recently ordered 5 no-till drill heads from Pennsylvania to build a small no-till planter. The shipping on that pallet was a little over $1,000. There are very few Ag Suppliers in the state and no farm equipment salvage yards. Almost all of the John Deere/Case/Kubota dealerships focus on the Construction Equipment but will special order an Ag tractor if you know what you want. There are about 5 stores in the entire state that sell fertilizer in 50 lb bags and two that sell in 2,000 lb sacks. Its been quite a bit of a shock since moving here from Michigan...

Thanks again, Jeff
