Lancaster, OH | Broadly, acetachlor will control small seeded broadleaves (lambsquarters, pigweeds, nightshades, etc.) better than metolachlor. It is a much more active chemistry.
You can talk about solubility, etc. but they both take soil moisture to work and the difference is pretty miniscule.
Historically, Monsanto discovered acetachlor and metolachlor around the same time as alachlor but the crop safety on the first two was too questionable so they went with alachlor without patenting metolachlor which Geigy grabbed to make Dual.
These are all good grass chemistries (shoot absorbed) but, for my money, I'd lean toward the acetachlor. | |
