Subject: Shipping by rail question

Kansas
Was talking to a guy who used to work for an elevator the other day and he told me how the big boys (BNSF and UPSP) start giving the big discounts to ship out grain by rail if you have 54 cars. I've always wondered, what exactly does it cost the elevators to do this and how does it trickle down to us in terms of how much less per bu they take off for this or does it work that way at all. Just wondering. I still don't get why they charge more for less cars.
