Subject: very little sow reduction in the US

Monticello IL
I don't understand those ratios you are using. But I just don't think there has been very much sow liquidation during this latest downward market(last 2 years). Of course there was some, but in the USA I don't think there was as much as people are thinking. I even know of a 5000 sow unit that is being built new.

Now I think canada is on the verge of dropping alot of sows, and has allready seen major sow reductions. The sow base there is alot smaller so it takes major percentage moves to help the US markets.

The large diaster bankruptcy in the US has just recently been seen with that farm in NC. Has there been any other big boys file bankrupcty? There was a large unit in Iowa at the beginning of all this that got bought by the Maschhoffs. Another large operation in Iowa was on the edge and managed to get additional financing to keep going. There are empty finishers in some places but alot of barns that were going to go empty have found new pigs.

Does anyone know of sow units in the US that are empty now?
