southern Alberta | Taking to the seed plant manager this morning, He said everybody is shying away from barley and of course, durum. So that leaves canola, peas and wheat as the majority of acres in my area. With todays prices for fall delivery, wheat pencils out better for me than canola, net $$$ at may different yeild compairsons. Even in an optimum yeild situation canola does not have enough premium to off set the risk. The canola seed reps are pushing their product hard on the "potential to get more$$, dont worry about the up front cost with my variety" senerio. I think the market will have to move up, if wheat moves up, to buy some acres. But if I was so smart, I would not of held 6000 bus of canola over from last year either. Coulda had $11, now $9.50 ish ,but with the dry/cold summer, thought about $16 | |
