SW Saskatchewan | To put the railways power into perspective, Canpotex for all its market pwer, maintains a trucking program for potash south from Esterhazy to the BN line in North Dakota to maintain some semblance of "alternatives" to the Canadian Railways.
Knew some truckers who used to truck "Spits" from North Dakota to the Columbia because of the BN monopoly, same with Wheat from Central Montana. But, BN and the large terminals were able to effectively combine to price just to the point that all the savings over trucking were captured by the railway.
No matter how nice Warren and Bill are personally, I think both were listening in econ 101.
But I think the worst would still have been for CN or CP to have taken control. | |
