First--Paul Martin was the worst PM and also a very poor finance minister. All the good stuff you wrote about him actually fell into his lap.All the extra cash to balance the budgets were the work of the previous governments policy. The government that worked hard all during the 80's to clean up Trudeau's spending spree. In short ,trudeau spent like a drunken sailor, the conservatives put in taxes to pay it back, like the GST,got voted out because of it,Martin comes along, slides in to office on "the little guys"coat tails and money is just starting to pour in.The fact is under the county's most hated PM we had some of the best fiscal measures put in place. But no one wants to talk about him.Just to mention his name you get ridicule.
Second-You are correct that this government does not act like a conservative government. We all know they can't be conservatives because they are in minority.Harper actually scares me as a person,he is so conservative. The other reason he cant be conservative is ,the worst time for a conservative PM is when there are Liberals in the white house (I mean Democrats)

On to John's ?---Yes it appears the regulators here have openened the balloon Valves as well. The housing bubble continues to grow in the select areas of the country that need a fundamental change in attitude, namely the west coast, couple cities in the foothills, most of central Canada and one city on the east coast. Usually when these areas real estate start to contract, it throws the rest of us into a deeper recession.
