Southern Nevada desert | The delay is not that big a deal. We just went through this twice with my daughter, first time we found out that the sports medicine surgeon wanted to wait a month before surgery to get all the swelling out before the surgery. Two years later she popped the second one and knew instantly, our insurance situation was screwed up and the surgeon told us there was no problem waiting a while, it ended up about 6 months to get insurance worked out and the second one fixed.
The rehab is crucial, the first time my daughter was absolutely determined not to miss a single volleyball game and the physical therapists went above and beyond to make it happen. My daughter worked her butt off and made it happen, the second one she was out of school and not so dedicated and it seemed like it took twice as long to get back to semi normal.
Good luck
