Lapel, In | Yep memories. Brought back another one for me. Was about 48 -50 maybe. Saw a movies in grade school about Heinz trying to develope the best tomato they could. They kept picking the best tomatoes for seed with no progress. Only did they make progress when they saved the seeds from the best and most robust plants. Don't know why that lesson stuck with me for 60 years or so.
Am told that now Red Gold makes catsup for everyone including Heinz. Those friends who have toured the plant near here say its the same catsup, the same tomatoes, only the label is different. I know one thing, the tomatoes are now bred to withstand mechanical pickers and being hauled from many miles. Occaasionally they will roll off the semis that travel up In. 13 just down the street and they just bounce and rarely ever split open. | |
