After having gone thru that with a sister who was diagnosed with brain cancer, its an up and down roller coaster of emotions. You need to stay positive and supportive while realizing that its not very treatable in most cases. Fortunately it doesn't seem to cause pain that other types of cancer do. Your family has my prayers.
