pull off the air box and snorkel tubes and the couple bolts that hold the starter on. Take out the starter and pull the bolts out of the end of it. Take apart all of the starter parts very easy to do. Now look at the brushes in the armature on the end of the starter 90% chance that they are corroded just enough that they will not slide back and forth freely. Clean up all the starter parts and reassemble.
should work good now. I almost forgot that my dealer said polaris's will burn out headlight bulbs if they are run with a dead battery for too long. Not exactly sure why but thats why he said all of mine burned out. This is on a 2000 500 sportsman.
