Iowa | I have always been taught that if your engine is going to normally have synthetic oil, you need to utilize conventional oil to break in the engine. The inconsistencies in conventional oil help the rings seat better than synthetic. I have also been taught that if possible, breaking in an engine under the most extreme loading conditions (i.e.- dyno) will result in the best performing rotating assembly. This is why if you look at many racing shops, the engines go on a dyno (engine or chassis) before the product ever leaves with the customer. | |
