Subject: Causes of uneven corn emergence

Assuming your seed quality is similar to what the neighbors are planting, uneven emergence is can only be caused by a few things:

- uneven seed depth

- uneven seed to soil contact (uneven closing of the seed slot)

- uneven soil conditions above the seed (crusting) due to the way the seed slot was closed.

There are many things that can affect each of these items. I would look at a neighbor's system soils etc and compare each of the above to your system.

Your uneven emergence could be caused by many different factors influencing the 3 characteristics above.
