Brazilton KS
There will be a DOT number on the tire. There will be another DOT number on the tread, if it is a retread.

Most retreads are precured tread. This will have a seam in it where the two ends meet on the tire. There will also often be some evidence of build-up rubber along the edges of the tread at the casings. That is fairly obvious to see. Mold cure caps, however, will not have a seem, as they are built up and then the tread is molded in after it is on the tire.

If the tread is the same on all the tires, but the casings are not identical, that would be a dead giveaway. It's also no big project to look the name on the side of the tire up on the internet and see if it has the correct tread pattern.

This is just a "me" thing, but if it turns out that "the competitor" has new tires on his trailer, that would be a major blow to my ability to trust the guy who was making the claims that they were now.
