Central Ohio | So I decided to try my hand at an HID conversion. Since it would only cost me $180 for two lights, I decided it was a better first step toward the Holy Grail of ag lighting! :)
My conversion kit came from ddmtuning.com for $39.95 plus shipping. That is for two bulbs/ballasts They are a performance car tuner whose products get great reviews. I got the 4500K temp 9005 35W Raptor kits.
My goal was to be able to open fields after dark (lots of strange shapes and fence rows and trees) so I put both lights on the same side of the tractor, one front and one back.
I bought two rear fender work lamps for the JD 8x30 series tractors. It appears they are the Speaker Trap lights. $57 each. Don't let them tell you that you don't have to order the weather boots separate for the back of the lamps. Still waiting on those.
As you can see, my CIH 9350 is somewhat modern so I just spliced right in to where the former hallogen was. These lights from ddm only draw 6 amps at start up and 3 amps constant, so should be no worries there.
You can see where I mounted everything and the difference in light during the day. Can't wait for things to dry up so I can try it in the field at night!
I have not yet gotten to test the RF interference factor. Hopefully the radio ant will not be affected since it is on the other side of the cab, and maybe not the GPS antenna, which is 3 feet away. We will see!
Feel free to ask Qs.
