Subject: Re: JD 7920 squeak in cab

Archer Iowa
There is a DTAC solution out on this.

Solution Number: 74843

Solution Summary: Windshield Squeaks 7030LF, 8030 and 9030 series tractors

Publication Date: Nov 19 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

**Paper copies of solutions may not be the most current solutions**

Complaint or Symptom :
Cab windshield makes squeaking noise.

Problem or Situation :
1. R254929 and R254930 gaskets were installed without removing backing paper SN 8030(-010332)

2. Risers R167959 and R167960 contacting bottom of windshield.

3. Dirt build-up on windshield bottom supports.

4. Glass is not centered in ROPS.

5. Window rubbing top support of cab frame

6. Capscrews securing front line bundle isolators contact glass behind cowl

Solution :
1. There are two R254929 and two R254930 gaskets used per cab. Depending on options, cab may either have light brackets or clamp plates located at belt line or loader light positions. Loosen cap screws and verify backing paper has been removed from gaskets that are placed between brackets/clamp plates and cab glass and that gaskets are adhered to windshield glass. If not, replace gasket or remove backing paper and position gaskets so that adhesive is against windshield glass. Reinstall brackets or clamps and tighten cap screws.

2. Install R114059 isolation spacer between flashing and supports that suspend windshield 74843–2. Ensure flashing is not contacting glass during re-assembly.

3. Add six R114059 isolation spacers on top of lower windshield supports R228315 and R119890 to suspend windshield. Install three spacers evenly spaced on each outside support with 2 spacers on center support 74843–1. Ensure flashing R167959 and R167960 isn’t contacting glass upon re-installation.

4. Remove windshield retaining brackets, center windshield, install R254929 and R254930 gaskets behind retaining brackets to help maintain window in center position.

5. Grind upper clamp to prevent windshield from contacting steel support.

6. Replace existing capscrews with shorter substitute

Additional Information :
Adhesive on gaskets is intended to keep dirt out between gasket and glass and keep windshield centered in cab frame.

Reference solution 23845

R114059 Isolation spacers went into production with tractor RW8230P022285 on 29Jan08.
