Subject: RE: Follow-up on hydraulic vs. motor oil

Seaford, Delaware
As a rule hydraulic oils are more economical to produce as they do not contain as many additives such as a soot dispersants and friction modifiers that we have to put into our diesel engine oils. Also some manufacturers recommend a R&O (Rust and Oxidation) oil or a AW (Anti-Wear) oil or a combination of the two. Rule #1 is to check the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) recommendations it is important that they be followed. There are so many variables in today's hydraulic systems including clutch materials, pump design, pressures, etc.
