Subject: Re: GFCI protection for electric powerwasher

Virginia
This topic is interesting. I tried to use a 60 amp GFIC breaker on a 10 hp 38 amp power washer. The GFCI breakers would not start the pump. I tried a Cutler Hammer and Square D breaker with the same result. Would a higher amp breaker work or would it read the same "spike" and trip.

This came up before. If electric power washers are thought to be dangerous should electric well pumps and water heaters also considered dangerous? A well pump motor and water heater are in contact with the water that runs to your bath tub where the wife and kids come in contact with the water. I want to be safe, but how safe is safe? The power washer is very safe when it will not run. It is also worthless.
