Manitoba | I have always wondered that when someone asked you to be their executor, if it was because they didn't like you? There are no guidelines or laws here governing how much you can charge. I have charged from nothing on a fairly simple, closely related estate, to an amount that I felt just covered my expenses. I didn't agree to act intending to profit, nor lose money, by performing the duties required. It is one of those thankless jobs, that can also leave you open to unwarranted criticism from the family. It sounds to me like you did the best you could with a tough situation. I would cover completely all expenses, but I think it has to be your decision as to what your time was worth. Also take into consideration what your Uncle and his family may have (or not ) done for you in the past. Dealing with someone elses money requires the wisdom of Solomon! Wish you the best. | |
