Iowa | I believe it was about a year ago I was reading one of the farm magazines I get(most should go directly from the mailbox to the trash can)and a writer was saying to look at your corn fields as oil-fields for the wealth they would bring. All I can say is "What a difference a year can make". I think the thing people should have been doing with the past couple "good" years is using the extra to pay off debt-instead it appears that most around here anyway have been digging a bigger hole. The thing about cash rent that has frustrated me the most is a cash-rent auction taking place in the area and some nut giving an outragous price and your landlord getting the big idea that "if he can pay that then by-god you can too" even if you didn't bid on the other piece at all. I really think that sometimes the most profitable farm is the one you didn't get rented just like at times the most profitable feedlot is the empty one. Thanks-very interesting article | |
