Bark just doesn't look right for a cottonwood, but hard to tell.

Looks more like an elm to me, but could be an ash.

Oak or walnut is also possible.

Bark doesn't look right for maple, but kinda distant to be sure.

Would be easy to tell when the leaves show up. Do the branches alternate, or are they always in pairs right across from each other?

I did well in forestry in FFA, but we went with leaves & small branch shapes - I never got into idientifying by whole tree shape.

Been clearing up the grove the past 2 weeks, only have a small dent. There is 10 years of bad windstorms laying down in there.
