Subject: RE: Value of a tree

central - east central Minnesota -

Throwing a guess out - Cottonwood ? If it were here, that'd be my guess. As others have said, lessor trees are not worth much. Cherry, walnut, oak have better value, but price is down in this economy today. It was common to see elm, cottonwood, oak and some walnut at consignment sales - seemed to bring good money. Most airdryed. Most cottonwood would be 5/4 or 2x4,6 width. the other hardwoods would be 5/4 x 6 or 8.

Fencerow trees - fire wood made out of the first 6ft the rest of the tree, if streight, would log out and not have concerns for wire or hardward in the log. Most here make fire wood out of dead felled logs or dead standing trees (currently elm and red oak). Leaving the live for later when if they croke. Lots of wasted trees in old pastures, big shelter belts around - Maynot be oak or ash, but still good fire wood if guys would get after it. Most firewooders perfer the trimmers/cutters bringing tree logs out of Mpls and suburbs that don't make saw logs . . . less work then dragging through the woods makeing firewood . . .
