Lapel, In
Couple tips when using rattle cans. Shake, shake, shake and shake AFTER setting the can in some very warm water until ,the paint is thoroughly warmed. That does two things.. It makes the pigment much easier to get much more evenly dispersed (will give you a slick paint surface too)in the paint and the warmth makes the propellent have more pressure. I have done this for about 40 years or so and it is possible to get a job with a spray can applied so good, it is impossible to tell it from a job where a $500 paint gun was used in many cases.

As far as getting paint to last, first use an expoxy primer to seal the metal. All paint is porous and will allow water to penetrate down to the metal. Epoxy primer is the only paint that is not porous. Then use plenty of paint.
