Subject: RE: Just what is sattelite drift???

Hillsboro, AL

farmboy99 - 11/23/2006 09:25  My question or request, would someone please explain what sattelite drift is? I think I see it all the time in that if I stop planting for the day and return later the next pass I plant I will have to shift the track to get the pass in the correct spot. Mind you that the pass is lined up perfectly with the last one but it might not be 30" between the rows. Just what is happening?

That is satellite drift.  The drift occurs slowly over time.  Several things play into this.  The biggest one is that the satellites are in orbit and you are receiving different ones from different locations over time.  Changes in atmospheric conditions also affect drift.  The distance from the ground station that is supplying the correction will also affect drift.  (closer is better).
