Subject: Just what is sattelite drift???

SE South Dakota
I am using SF 2 for row crop planting and the pass to pass accuracy is good enough that I do not use markers except for the headlands sometimes. My question or request, would someone please explain what sattelite drift is? I think I see it all the time in that if I stop planting for the day and return later the next pass I plant I will have to shift the track to get the pass in the correct spot. Mind you that the pass is lined up perfectly with the last one but it might not be 30" between the rows.
Just what is happening?
If I take the tractor to a spot in the center of my farmyard, write down the lat-long numbers, return to that exact spot a day or year later the numbers will match up perfectly. Why doesn't that drift?

Also does anyone have an idea on the cost for me to upgrade my SF 2 system to JD RTK?
