Subject: auctioneer tactics

Central Mo

I was wondering how land or house auctions are handled in dif parts.  Here in MO the auctioneer will cry for awhile, then adjourne to talk to the owner to see if the price is high enough, then come back and cry for awhile to get more money.  I have not known of the auctioneer to come back after meeting with the owner and say sold, they always try for more $, then say sold, or not.

In an auction like that I would not bed until they come back and try for more moolah.

I did know of one auciton though where one of the guys that was going to bid told them in advance that if they went in to talk and came back and opened the bidding up they were going to walk.  They had the high bid and when the aucitoneer came back out the high bidders had left.  So they opened it up again and nothing, had to go backwards on the price and ended up bringing hundreds per acre less.
