I use fields area measure on my phone. I've mapped fields by riding the perimeter on a 4wheeler. You can also zoom in and do manual measure. Before my smartphone I used a handheld Garmin. Have a friend that used a handheld gps to map all his fences while fixing fence, then layed them over maps on his computer. I dont know what software he used, but his wife works for the FSA so she works with that stuff all the time.
