My dad updated from a 6A to a 311 in 1961. Used it for 40 years. Had to add gear oil every year to each gearbox. Must not have been great seals on them. Never had gearbox trouble. Sold picker for $700 about 15 years ago.
6A would be break down every day. The 311, about once every 5 years.
