| I see the USDA today said that average wage rates for farm workers in the US in October was $9.95/hr. What do you have to pay an employee that works most of the year, mostly driving equipment, doing some repairs and maintenance, but not really having any managerial skills?
I'm in Southern Alberta, and with the hot energy-based economy here, we are paying $15-18 / hr for employees like that (US $13.50-16.00). That will get you someone that grew up in Mexico, went to school for parts of a few years, can't read or write English, can't do math, speaks some English but is pretty good with equipment and shop work. Fortunately for us, these employees won't work Sundays or else they'd all be working in the "oil patch", driving a water truck or something simple, and getting at least $30/hr. | |
