Subject: 800 corn head problem

Caraway, AR

A few years ago  I bought a 864 corn head. Now I don't grow much corn and then, not every year. It's been on a 1480 running 3-3.5 MPH. Not pushing at all.

Why is it so hard on the Gather driven gears (see pic #'s 20 & 21). About every 10 or 15 hr. it will go through a pair of them.(different gear boxes) The drive gears don't wear (# 9 & 10)and look good and smooth. Always fill to mark with 90-135 GL5 oil. These gears were all bought at one time from the same place.....is it probable that there was a bad batch, maybe not heat treated, or are these 800 heads gear eaters.

Thanks for any suggestions, or do I need to get another head.

John
